Win a FREE Copy: FAMILY OBLIGATIONS My NEW Collaboration with Vivien Dean

I'm thrilled to announce the release of "Family Obligations," a deeply touching story I had the honor of co-writing with the amazing romance author, Vivien Dean.

I have long been haunted by one short story, E. Annie Proulx’s beautiful, powerful, and tragic “Brokeback Mountain.” I remember reading the short story many years ago just after it was published originally in the New Yorker magazine. It stayed with me through all the years, partly because Proulx’s prose is so spare, yet poetic, but also because the story, at its core, could have been mine, since I too was a closeted, married gay man, filled with secret longings and wearing a mask for the rest of the world.

Our story, “Family Obligations” has a lot in common with Brokeback, even though it’s totally different. It too is a story about two men who fell in love while young and vibrant, and then, because of their own and society’s expectations, were kept apart through the years. Yet, their love was so strong that they could never manage to break the hold they had upon each other.
WE HAVE A WINNER! Through random selection, Cindi has won the free copy. I will be in touch to get it to you. Meanwhile, you can buy your own very reasonably priced copy here. WIN A FREE COPY! As I always do on a new release day, I am giving away a free digital copy of "Family Obligations" to one winner. Simply leave a comment below (include your e-mail so I can be in touch if you win). I will pick a winner on Friday, June 28.

BLURB
Tate D’Angelo always believed he knew who his father was. Beloved doctor, devoted husband and father, a kind soul...these were the words shared by everyone who came to his funeral. So when his father’s old college buddy, Randy, approaches him after the service, Tate expects to hear echoes of the same.

What he gets, instead, is almost a lifetime’s worth of letters that tell him so much more and cause him to view his father—and his family—in a whole new light.

The truth, about a secret love kept buried for decades, astonishes him. Overwhelmed by grief and confusion, Tate’s unsure if he can bear hearing how the lives of these two men entwined over the years, but he reads on anyway, discovering more to value, more to respect, and most importantly, more to love about the man who raised him.

  7. Rick,
I"m a massage therapist and have said for decades that I am akin to a drug dealer: I give free samples to 'hook' people. You're doing the same thing! WAG (Wise-Assed Grin)

From the first paragraph of the excerpt I felt hooked. Very good writing. I doff my invisible hat to you and your co-author!

  28. It is amazing to have this kind of book - relationship between men ! I met my Peruvian boyfriend in the US, unfortunately, I have to return to my country, Malaysia due to my J1 visa status which made it compulsory for me to return upon my completion of MA study. Neither of our countries allow same sex marriage. The US is the one of places we could try to live together after 2 years due to J1 visa. So I am so looking forward to reading the book! Hopefully, it will become our lead to our future :) my email address: anthonychong123@gmail.com
