Authors Interview...YOU! Talk to Sandra Cox & Win A FREE Book!

Today, I begin a new series...with a twist. Instead of the standard author interview, where you read all about the author, I thought it would be cool to turn the tables and let the authors interview you.

Here's how it works:

Read and respond to the questions from the author below (just put your answers in the comment section).

Leave a way to contact you should you win a FREE book.

That's it! This week paranormal romance author Sandra Cox is offering a free ebook copy of her chilling YA vampire book, Vampire Island. Just answer the questions below and I'll pick a winner on Wednesday, June 30.

1. Is your decision to purchase a book based on cover appeal?
2. Do you have a select handful of authors you stick with or are you adventurous and read whatever book sounds appealing regardless of who wrote it?
3. Do you prefer your heroines and heroes beautiful and hunky as long as they come across as real human beings or  would you prefer more average, possibly a little overweight characters?
4.  Does age matter? For instance would you read a book with a sixteen year old as the main character? With a fifty-something main character?
5. Whether print or e, do you buy when books are first released or wait till you can get them on sale?
Sandra Cox writes YA fantasy, historic and paranormal romance and metaphysical nonfiction. Sandra lives with her husband, a menagerie of pets, and an occasional foster cat in sunny North Carolina.  Her thirteenth book, GROUNDED,  a YA/YAH paranormal has just been released through classactbooks.com. 1. 1. Is your decision to purchase a book based on cover appeal? Not necessarily, but ridiculous or tasteless covers make me hesitant to check out the book further.

    2. Do you have a select handful of authors you stick with or are you adventurous and read whatever book sounds appealing regardless of who wrote it? I buy based on the premise of the story.

    3. Do you prefer your heroines and heroes beautiful and hunky as long as they come across as real human beings or would you prefer more average, possibly a little overweight characters? Average or overweight, definitely flawed...the "perfect" hero/heroine is overdone.

    4. Does age matter? For instance would you read a book with a sixteen year old as the main character? With a fifty-something main character? Age doesn't matter. I do prefer the character's motivations and actions coincide with their age, though.

    5. Whether print or e, do you buy when books are first released or wait till you can get them on sale? Depends. If a title/blurb catches my interest, I may be compelled to buy the book right off. Mostly, I wait for a discounted price though.

  2. 1. Is your decision to purchase a book based on cover appeal?

I think the summary on the back of the book is the biggest selling point for me. Sometimes an interesting cover will attract me to the book, though, which will increase the chances of me picking it up and later purchasing it. Online reviews at Amazon.com are a big factor into my decision, as well.

    2. Do you have a select handful of authors you stick with or are you adventurous and read whatever book sounds appealing regardless of who wrote it?

I'm kind of in the middle. I have several favorite authors (Murakami, Tom Robbins, Rick Reed, Stephen King, etc) but I don't always necessarily buy/read all of their books. Some of my favorite authors have books that I'm not really interested in reading (even King). I also like to venture out and try new authors or books that sound interesting, too.

    3. Do you prefer your heroines and heroes beautiful and hunky as long as they come across as real human beings or would you prefer more average, possibly a little overweight characters?

I like variation. Sometimes it's good to have the 'beautiful lead character' with the flaws but at other times I also like the obscure characters that are unique, such as the female lead character in the book I'm currently reading called "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".

    4. Does age matter? For instance would you read a book with a sixteen year old as the main character? With a fifty-something main character?

Age isn't a factor, in my opinion. I loved the young lead character in "Perks of Being a Wallflower" as much as I enjoyed reading about 'older' characters such as the lead character in "The Road".

    5. Whether print or e, do you buy when books are first released or wait till you can get them on sale?

It depends on the type of book and the author. Some mainstream books go on sale in 6 months, but non-mainstream books may stay the same price whether they're new or old. If it's a new book I'm dying to read, I usually splurge and purchase it. If it's a book that I can live without reading for a few months, I'll wait. I also tend to like reading paperbacks more than hardbacks since they're easier to handle when reading.

  3. 1. Is your decision to purchase a book based on cover appeal?

    Not usually.

    2. Do you have a select handful of authors you stick with or are you adventurous and read whatever book sounds appealing regardless of who wrote it?

As long as I can first read an excerpt, I'm willing to try authors I haven't read before.

    3. Do you prefer your heroines and heroes beautiful and hunky as long as they come across as real human beings or would you prefer more average, possibly a little overweight characters?

I like interesting characters, regardless of their physical appearance.

    4. Does age matter? For instance would you read a book with a sixteen year old as the main character? With a fifty-something main character?

I prefer to read books with adult main characters (18 to whatever).

    5. Whether print or e, do you buy when books are first released or wait till you can get them on sale?

It depends. I only buy hardcovers if I really, really, really want the book. Otherwise I usually buy the paperback when it comes out, since Amazon and other online retailers tend to discount them right out the gate.
