Imagine that: Invoking the Golden Rule has No Effect on Christians' Anti-gay Attitudes

I think it's about hearing what you want to hear and ignoring the rest. But the results of this study, and how some so-called Christians react to Jesus' admonition to "do unto others as you would have them do unto you..." is sadly, not surprising.

I guess that part Jesus said (Leviticus 19:34)  about loving your neighbor as you love yourself would also fly out the window with these folks.

  1. I have been brought up in Italy, where anti-gay and anti-immigrants movements are rampant, as well as a sort of neo-crusade attitude to Catholicism. I am endlessly appalled at how the two things go hand in hand: the most adamant racists and homophobes are the same ones who try and shove the Bible and crucifixes down everybody's throat and make them mandatory at school.

Now, how can these people miss that the crux of Jesus' words is to love each other and consider everyone as a brother, is beyond me. The huge contradiction would just make my brain explode.

  2. I find that when hard-core anti-gay Christians start spouting the Bible, they refer not to Jesus, but to the fire and brimstone Old Testament. They can't possibly get any good hate quotes from Jesus, who was a hippie, IMO and loved everyone.
